Michela Velardo is a member of the Rome’s Bar as well as the French-speaking Bar in Brussels.

She is an expert in European and Italian litigation. She advises in the fields of chemical legislation (in particular phytosanitary), labour law, state aid, public procurement, agri-food law, European funding, common foreign and security policy.

Currently, she has represented individuals, companies and public institutions in 200 disputes before the General Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union (see the list in the attached link).

Because of her in-depth knowledge of the Italian system, she deals with cases before the Italian Civil and Administrative Courts. She has been involved in various disputes before the Administrative Court of Rome in the field of public access to documents, compensation for data sharing, withdrawal of products from the market, procurements, sanctions imposed by the Italian Competition Authority.

She also represents various public institutions (such as the Commission and its Agencies) before National and European jurisdictions.

Due to her experience in the field of the European Public Labour law (Fonction Publique Européenne), she assists European officials in the proceedings before the Olaf (European Anti-Fraud Office) and the IDOC (Investigation and Disciplinary Office of the Commission), in pre-litigation appeals (art.90, II, of the Staff Regulations of the European Communities) and before the Court of the European Union.

The European dimension has allowed her to strengthen her skills in the agri-food sector, the main resource for her country of origin (Italy). In fact, she assists small and medium-sized enterprises in their policy of promoting agricultural and food products in an increasingly competitive globalised economy.

Her working languages are Italian, French and English. She is a public speaker at conferences on subjects of interest and publishes articles in international legal journals, such as Chemistry Today and Agro Food Hi-tech.

She is a visiting professor at the University of Bologna (Italy) “Alma Mater”. She has been a trainer in courses organised by the High Council of the Judiciary (Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura). She graduated cum laude in Law from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and holds a Masters in Administrative Law, as a grant holder from the High School of Public Administration (Scuola Superiore della Pubblica Amministrazione).

In the past, she was an official of the Italian Ministry of Economy and a member of the Legal Service of the European Commission in Brussels.
